Revitalising Harlow: Removal of East Walk-Terminus House Bridge

2nd April 2024

Caridon Property, in collaboration with Harlow Council and Morgan Sindall, is thrilled to announce the imminent commencement of work on the highly anticipated regeneration project in Harlow's town centre. Scheduled to begin in April 2024, this phase marks a pivotal moment in the multi-million-pound regeneration of Harlow Bus Station to create a first-class Sustainable Transport Hub and revitalise Terminus Street.

From April 5th, the closure of the bus station toilets and the Terminus House bridge (connecting East Walk and Terminus House) is necessary to facilitate the demolition of these existing structures, marking the beginning of a transformative phase. This essential step lays the groundwork for an 18-month construction program, during which detailed information on the timeline of works and the provision of a temporary bus station will be made available shortly.

To ensure continued accessibility, visitors and tenants can access Terminus House, its car park, and Mecca bingo via the north and south entrances of Terminus Street. While central access through the bus interchange will no longer be available, additional accessible and disabled bays will be provided on the ground floor of Terminus House. Although the Changing Places toilet will be temporarily closed, visitors can utilise the brand-new changing places facilities within the Harvey Centre.

In addition to the bridge removal, Caridon Property is investing in further aesthetic enhancements to complement the redevelopment of the bus station and Terminus Street. These improvements include upgrades to the bin store area and landscaping around the building, creating a more inviting rear access to Terminus House and its car park.

"We are excited to be part of this transformative regeneration project," said a spokesperson from Caridon Property. "This initiative exemplifies Harlow Council's dedication to fostering vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable communities. By prioritising safety and aesthetics, we aim to enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors alike."

This first essential phase, funded by the Government's £23.7m Towns Fund program, signifies the beginning of a journey towards creating a modern and welcoming space for residents, visitors, and employees alike. The Sustainable Transport Hub and Interchange will not only cater to the immediate transportation needs of the community but will also seamlessly connect with the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town sustainable transport corridor.

Further updates and information are available at the Discover Harlow hub every Thursday from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm or by emailing the Regeneration team at regen.enquiries@harlow.gov.uk.
