Caridon Group delivering hot food to the homeless

10th October 2022

On Monday 10th October and Monday 17th October, volunteers from Caridon Foundation and Caridon Property, part of Caridon Group, will delivering hot meals, sandwiches and winter warmer packs to homeless people in Croydon, in partnership with Nightwatch. The Caridon team will be located outside the Croydon Council HQ, Bernard Weatherill House, Mint Walk, from 8.30pm until late.

Croydon Nightwatch is a charity that provides direct support to people at every level of homelessness, from the street homeless to those in hostels and bed and breakfast accommodation, as well as vulnerable former homeless people who need continuing support to prevent future homelessness. Caridon Foundation, the not-for-profit arm to the Caridon Group, offers housing related support to tenants that are deemed vulnerable and at risk of homelessness within the community.

The cost-of-living crisis is affecting almost every household in Britain, which is putting increased pressure on services such as Nightwatch and Caridon Foundation, which are both seeing a dwindling supply of food donations and yet an increase in demand for their support.

Mario Carrozzo, CEO of Caridon Group says:Last year I said that the true impact of the pandemic on our economy was yet to be seen, this is now ensuing. The ‘Everyone In’ campaign, which helped find emergency accommodation for all rough sleepers in England during the pandemic all but ended street homelessness overnight. But now a worrying combination of economic factors, in particular the energy crisis which is plunging millions into fuel poverty, could see homelessness in the UK surge to unprecedented levels and cause loss of life. We must act now.

"As an organisation which has been working with local authorities across the south of England to provide support and accommodation, we know first-hand the struggles that households are facing. Today is World Homelessness Day but the support must be ongoing. We are currently focusing our efforts on building partnerships with specialist external organisations within the local community to enhance our support and ensure that our services and donations go directly to those most in need. As we head into the winter months, we would urge others to help wherever they can, donating clothes, food and daily necessities via organisations that work with vulnerable people.”

Caridon Foundation will be looking to create more Winter Warmer Packs over the coming weeks which include, hoodies, gloves, hats, thermals, toiletries, and water - further dates for distribution will be announced soon.
